Solid Proof that HomePlate IS Excellent

You know I think the staff and volunteers of HomePlate rock. This week, the Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International proved they feel the same way. On Wednesday evening, these philanthropic women presented my favorite non-profit with their 2013 Excellence in Action Award.

The DKG women are a society of former school district employees. Those who used to be in the classroom as well as previous administrators make up this fraternal organization. Their hearts for the caring of local youth just makes sense.

The ceremony included introductions, dinner, and presentations from those involved with HomePlate; the most powerful speakers the former youth who benefited from caring staff and volunteers.
Chris shared how there are many organizations out there serving the homeless, but the staff at HomePlate build relationships with kids on the street. HomePlate becomes not only a place where these couch-surfers can come for a meal, it becomes a place of trust. Once trust is established, kids are more likely to reach out for help to get out of their dire situations.
Carmen volunteered with HomePlate and then depended on them when she became homeless herself. Now she works with a local church, volunteers, and plans on going to college to get an education in social work.

Some of the amazing people that make up HomePlate. And me.
I was completely honored to be added to the guest list on Wednesday evening. The folks you see with me in the above photo have the some of the biggest hearts of anyone you’ll ever meet. The rest of generous-hearted HomePlate group remained in Beaverton that evening, serving dinner and providing resources to the kids dropping in.
