Happy Valentine’s Day

I hope you are all able to share love today – whether with a special someone, a child, a friend, or even a passerby who may need a smile and a friendly “hello”.
When I volunteered at Loaves & Fishes a few weeks ago, Robert, the center manager, requested hand made valentines from the Girl Scout troop I co-lead. He also handed me 100 paper placemats to decorate for the seniors who would dine at the East Portland Community Center for their Valentine’s lunch.
Last Saturday, our 4th grade troop gathered for a card making party.

My co-leader and I delivered the finished creations from our girls and 2 more local troops to Robert on Monday morning. He expressed how much his Meals on Wheels clients were looking forward receiving the valentines. He then requested more decorated cards and placemats for Memorial Day. I realize I began this quest to learn the nature of a servant as a personal journey, but lately I am encouraged by the relationships forming with each contact.
While our Girl Scouts supplied Loaves & Fishes with valentines, the organization provided me with a Valentine option for my sweetheart. Local companies donated items to create “Valentine-a-Grams”, one of Meals on Wheels biggest fundraisers. 100% of the proceeds from each delivered present goes directly to Loaves & Fishes. Thanks to the generous sponsors, I can buy a gift that says, “I love you” to my husband. In return, I know Portland’s low-income seniors will feel the love through a home delivered lunch each day.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Sweetheart!
