We’re All in this Together – Week 49

If you’re following me on my 2012 journey, you know that HomePlate has become one of my favorite places to volunteer. I have a heart for youth and hate that so many in our community have no stable environment to call home.

I think back to February, the first time I brought food to help serve a meal to the couch-surfing teens. I was so nervous about the unknown. Fast-forward to December – I now feel so comfortable with the staff and regular kids that show up for dinner.

This is volunteer staff member, Brian.

He knows how to solve the Rubik’s Cube.

Let me tell you about my friends, Troy and Sandy (the pastor’s wife). The Hoppenraths started the church plant we love, the church that’s mission is to serve our local community.

As you can tell, it is important to remain reverent
around the Pastor and his wife.
When Troy heard my tales of HomePlate, he knew Kaleo should be a part of it. When HomePlate began looking for partners to make regular meals at their new Beaverton location, he gave his blessing for our church to be a constant presence. Kaleo is now in charge of HomePlate dinners on the first Wednesday of every month.
Even the smallest are happy to serve.

I love serving with my church family. There’s a bond that grows stronger each time we work together. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs with different churches in my 42 years of living and can honestly state the churches who put the needs of others over the needs of their own are the healthiest. Those are the people with whom I want to worship the God I adore.

If you’d like to serve with our church family at HomePlate, leave a comment below and I will contact you. Facebook users can “Like” my Facebook page and be kept up to date with the latest serving info.

If you need a place to just “come and be” this holiday season, come worship with our Kaleo family. Sharing thoughts on Advent Conspiracy, Troy’s sermons are sure to make you contemplate the true meaning of Christmas.

My sister came to serve, too.
Not part of my church family.
Just part of my family.

I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.John 13:15-17 (NIV)
