About Me

Who I am:

Hi! I’m Andee, short for Andrea. I’m married to Edd. (Not a typo. His name really is spelled with two “d”s. Short for nothing.)

We have two daughters. Our eldest is 17, our youngest is 14 and my husband freaks out with the amount of estrogen in this household. Both girls are drama queens. We’ve tried to channel that by getting them involved with Journey Theater Arts Group. Now they can be drama queens for God.

Where I’m From:

I was born and raised in Southern California, but have spent the last 24 years moving up and down the I-5 corridor. Edd and I love our current home in Portland, Oregon. We plan on staying here a while.

What I do:

My paid jobs have been in education and ministry and talk radio. Currently I’m a writer, public speaker, a podcaster, and an elementary school librarian. I know. Random.

I love when our pastor takes a break and lends me the pulpit (or rather, the music stand). Talking is my passion. Here is more information about topics about which I love to speak.

Our family loves adventure. In 2007 we sold everything we could, borrowed my parents R.V., and travelled around the U.S.A. for 7 months. We get out of town whenever we can, though now the kids are in high-school so we plan more “staycations”.

Blog to Podcast:

I started writing Nature of a Servant* because I wasn’t happy with my cynical behavior. You can read about the challenge I gave myself here. I realized I complained about all wrong in the world but I wasn’t doing anything to help make it right. I came up with too many excuses as to why I couldn’t/wouldn’t/shouldn’t.

At first, this blog served as an accountability tool to get over my selfishness and to serve. Now I hope to encourage others to step out of their comfort zones and volunteer more in their own communities.

Writing the blog led to hosting a Progressive talk show on a Conservative Christian radio station. While I so enjoyed my time on air, the prep work started to take me away from my family. In the fall of 2015, I left daily shows to produce podcast episodes and haven’t looked back.

If you don’t want to miss anything, you can subscribe to posts sending them directly to your blog reader or email inbox. You can also “Like” my Facebook page for updates or talk to me via Twitter.

Periodically, I send out something special to email subscribers ~ a note about some of the behind the scenes happenings and favorite things I find. Subscribe here to be in the loop.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope we can encourage each other to live each day with the “nature of a servant.”

Jody, hopefully we can be Facebook friends. Seems like we have a lot in common. We've been in So Cal, Portland, back to So Cal, Seattle, and now back in Portland again. 🙂 I think we share the same college alma mater, as well!
